ولد أدهم صبري الحقيقي، طبقاً لروايات الدكتور نبيل فاروق، في عام 1951. ووالده كان يتيماً، وكان يحمل رتبة مقدم.
في عام 1967، وعندما كان أدهم في السادسة عشر من عمره، كان يجيد التحدث بخمس لغات حية، ويجيد اطلاق النار بنسبة 98%، بالإضافة الى قيادة المركبات في البر والبحر والجو. كما كان قد حصل أيضاً على الحزام الأسود في الجودو والكاراتيه.
عام 1969 تم اغتيال والد أدهم في ايطاليا اثر عملية حقيرة اعدها الموساد له، وكان عمر أدهم آنذاك 18 عاماً.
تأثر أدهم باغتبال والده، وغير الحادث مجرى حياته فأصبح يكن كرهاً شديداً للموساد. وفي تلك الفترة كان أدهم قد أنهى دراسته الثانوية فالتحق بالكلية الحربية في نفس العام.
تخرج أدهم من الكلية الحربية بعد عام واحد، والتحق بقوات الصاعقة حيث كانت له بطولات عدة في حرب الإستنزاف.
كان أدهم يرغب بالإلتحاق بالمخابرات المصرية والتي رفضت انضمامه اليها في بادىء الأمر، برغم أنها استعانت به عام 1971 في احدى عملياتها الخطيرة في قلب اسرائيل والمتعلقة بـ (خط بارليف)، فعمل أدهم تحت قيادة المخابرات المصرية للمرة الأولى في حياته، وكان عمره آنذاك 20 عاماً فقط.
التحق أدهم صبري رسمياً بإدارة المخابرات العامة المصرية عام 1973 وبعد الإنتصار في حرب أكتوبر، وكان عمره آنذاك 22 عاماً.
أحمد صبري، شقيق أدهم صبري في سلسلة رجل المستحيل، هو شخصية واقعية بالفعل. وهو جراح مخ وأعصاب حصل على درجة الدكتوراة في مجاله من السويد وطوكيو، كما أنه واحد من القلائل الذين يعملون في جراحة الأجهزة التعويضة وجراحات المخ الميكروسكوبية.
شخصية (قدري)، خبير التزوير في ادارة المخابرات المصرية في سلسلة رجل المستحيل، استوحاها الكاتب من شخصية الرسام الصحفي الراحل وأستاذ فن الكاريكاتير (صلاح شاهين).
